“You really can’t give up. If you know that you’re good enough—if something is telling you in your gut that you will do it, then you have to stick it through to the very end. There is so much rejection in this field, but if you know that you’re meant to do the job, then you have to keep going until you get it.
There were so many times that I thought I’d never do West Side Story, and look, I am doing it now. I was so close for 5 years. To get that close for so long—it would’ve been a real shame to have given up. I had been in final callbacks for the tour at least four times before actually getting it. There are so many different variables that affect whether you get the job or not, but I was determined. I knew I had to do this show—it took me five years, but I did it.”
