"We all know that this profession requires a lot of hard work. But if I could advise my younger, very fearful self, I would have imposed a rule of forgiveness. It’s so important to remember to forgive yourself when you sleep through a class, when you don’t get a callback, when you don’t have the best audition experience, and when your expectations outweigh whatever happened with anything. This is a practice I am still just beginning to cultivate: this idea of forgiving myself for any moment of physical or mental weakness in my craft. That’s what makes art creative. It’s messy and touch-and-go. Forgive yourself because you’re worthy of whatever you’re dreaming of accomplishing. Start there and don’t worry about things that already happened."
