“I went to James Madison University for college in Harrisonburg, VA, also known as The Friendly City. Everybody holds the door for everybody else—it’s something that JMU is known for. Everybody is looking out for somebody else even if it’s just holding the door.
I think if everybody in the dance and theatre community could do that for each other—maybe not physically holding the door, but smiling at somebody as you cross the street if you recognize them or taking the time to ask somebody how they’re doing that day and listen—I think it would make this profession that is very difficult, very trying and negative at times, just a little more friendly. You never know who needs it. You might touch the right person at just the right time.”
